Nako Timepieces Botswana — Three Dikgosi Edition Morula Retro Watch for Men (#PushaBW)
P2,700.00
The Marula Retro is a signature timepiece inspired by the Marula tree which is indigenous to Southern Africa, parts of West Africa and Madagascar.
For the Marula–Retro, we merged two ideas in naming and branding the timepiece. We used ideas from the Marula Tree and what it means in the context of Africa and the meaning around the word retro.
The Marula tree ((Sclerocarya birrea) is one of the largest African indigenous plants. The distribution of the Marula tree throughout Africa is influenced heavily by the migration of the Bantu people. The Bantu people comprise of over 400 different ethnic groups found in Central, East and Southern Africa and are speakers of the Ntu languages. In addition to being united by the Bantu language, they share many customs from a cultural perspective.
The Marula trees are dioecious, meaning that there are male and female trees (influenced our Nako Marula-retro His and Hers). The tree is known as the king of African trees because of its resistance to drought and every part of the tree has been used by indigenous people for thousands of years. The tree has been traditionally used for food in Africa and has socio-economic importance.
The second part is in utilizing the word retro which relates to reviving styles from the past or a sense of being fashionably nostalgic. This brought a sense of timelessness to the timepiece as the Marula tree dates back to 10,000 BC and has been one of Africa’s botanical treasures since ancient times. Combining Marula and Retro gave the name of the timepiece an even deeper meaning.
The Nako Marula Retro comes in His & Hers variations.
For the His
The Nako Marula Retro ‘His’ is a quintessential timepiece inspired by the Marula tree which is indigenous to Southern Africa, parts of West Africa and Madagascar. We designed the timepiece to be bold, contemporary, calm with the Nako signature tan that mirrors the colour Marula Tree fruit (varies from green, yellow, tan to brown — depending on its maturity stage).
For the Hers
The Nako Classic ‘Hers’ follows on the heels of the successful Nako Marula Retro, the product specifications of our Ladies Collection takes a similar but feminine touch. When designing the Nako Ladies’ Marula-Retro, we stayed true to similar elements such as those of the ‘His’ — bold, soft, contemporary with the Nako signature tan that mirrors the Marula Tree fruit.
